Thomas 27 was the metropolitan bishop of Tyre; in 869 he represented the patriarch of Antioch, Michael 55, at the Council summoned to Constantinople by Ignatios 1 and Basil I (Basilios 7); representatives from the eastern patriarchates were allowed to attend after Basilios 7 wrote to the ruler of Syria (presumably the caliph): Nicetas, Vita Ignatii 544D (Θωμᾶς δὲ μητροπολίτης Τύρου τόπον Μιχαὴλ ἐπλήρου τοῦ τῆς Ἀντιοχείας τῆς κατὰ Συρίαν πατριάρχου).
