Titles | Spatharios (dignity); Kuaistor (unclear) |
Seal Sources | Speck, P. et al. (eds.), Byzantinische Bleisiegel in Berlin (West) (Bonn, 1986) |
Theophylaktos 72 was a spatharios and kuaistor; owner of a seal dateable to the seventh or eighth century: Speck, Bleisiegel 47. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Κύριε βοήθει with τω - σω - δου - λω in the corners. Rev.: +[Θ]εο - φυλ[ακ]τον - σπα[θ]αρ(ιον) (και) κ - ου[α]ιστ - ωρα. The sketch by Speck shows the beta of the monogram in the form of a Latin capital R, indicating a date not before the early ninth century, but from the photograph of the seal it seems impossible to be certain that the letter did not have a line under it, consistent with an earlier date.
