Theophylaktos 33 was a basilikos koubikoularios, parakoimomenos and strategos of Sicilia; owner of seals dateable to the eighth century: DOSeals I 5.30. Two similar seals, from a different boulloterion, are Zacos and Veglery 2529a and b. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει, with τω - σω - δου - λω in the corners. Another seal with the same legend as the DO specimen but from a different boulloterion is Laurent, Vat., no. 114 (dated by Laurent to the seventh or eighth century). Possibly identical with the Theophylaktos cubicularius, patricius and exarchus Italiae from 705 to 710; see DOSeals I 5.30 note with references, and cf. T. S. Brown, Gentlemen and Officers: Imperial Administration and Aristocratic Power in Byzantine Italy, A. D. 554-800 (London, 1984), p. 279, Theophilactus 1. His titles are evidence that he was a eunuch.
