Theophilos 57 was a deacon and protonotarios; he was the addressee of a letter from Ignatius the Deacon (Ignatios 9); he had earlier been informed of Ignatios's problem but had taken no action; Ignatios now asks for justice to be observed and for his copy of the Gospels now in the possession of the current bishop of Hierapolis (Anonymus 764) to be returned to him; with this letter Ignatios 9 also sent one on the same subject to the patriarch Methodios 1; Theophilos 57 is asked to give it to the patriarch and to plead with him to support Ignatios 9's case: Ignatius Diac., Ep. 53 (addressed Θεοφίλῳ διακόνῳ καὶ πρωτονοταρίῳ), cf. Ep. 54 (the letter to Methodios 1). Theophilos 57 was therefore a cleric of the church at Constantinople.
