Theophilos 17 was a basilikos spatharios and protonotarios of Hellas; owner of a seal dateable to the ninth century: Schlumberger, Sig., p. 166, n. 4 from p. 165, no. 3 (= Mordtmann, "Plombs" I, p. 293). The legend, as reported by Schlumberger, reads: Cf. Winkelmann, Rangstruktur, p. 124 (Shandrovskaia and Sokolova prefer a date in the late ninth or early tenth century).
