Theophanes 47 was a basilikos strator; owner of a seal dateable to the second half of the ninth century: Zacos and Veglery 2514. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Τηεοτόκε βοήθει, with τω - σω - δου - λω in the corners. Rev.: +Θεο - φανει β' - στρατο - ρι+. The name and title read: Θεοφάνῃ βασιλικῷ στράτορι. The beta is in the form of a Roman capital R, indicating a date not before the mid ninth century.
