Theophanes 42 was a basilikos spatharios and komes of the korte; owner of a seal dateable to the first half of the ninth century: Zacos and Veglery 2512. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει, with τω - σω - δου - λω in the corners. Rev.: + Θεο - φανη β' ς - παθ' (καὶ) κομ - τ' κορτ'. The name and titles read: Θεοφάνῃ βασιλικῷ σπαθαρίῳ καὶ κόμητι τῆς κόρτης.
