Theophanes 26 was a basilikos protospatharios and gerokomos; owner of a seal dateable to the ninth or tenth century: Konstantopoulos, JIAN 9, 376A as corrected by Seibt, Bleisiegel, I, p. 325. The obverse has a cross on three steps with the legend: Κ(ύρι)ε β(οήθει) τῷ σῷ δού(λῳ). Rev.: + Θεο - φανηω - β(ασιλικῷ) (πρωτο)σπαθ - αρ(ίῳ) (καὶ) γερ - οκόμ(ῳ). Konstantopoulos read the end of the text as: (καὶ) γεν(ικ)ο͂ κομ(μερκιαρίῳ).
