Theologos 1 was basilikos protospatharios and katepano of the Mardaitai; owner of a seal dateable to the second half of the ninth century: Zacos II 331. Obv.: patriarchal cross on base and two steps, with the legend Κ(ύρι)ε βοίθ(ει) το σω δούλ(). Rev.: Θωλο - [β'] α' σπαθα - [ρ'] κ' κατ'πα' - [τ]ον Μαρ - δαιτ. The name and titles are read by Zacos as: Θεοφίλῳ βασιλικῷ πρωτοσπαθαρίῳ καὶ κατεπάνω τῶν Μαρδαΐτων. The name is interpreted, probably correctly, as "Theologos" by Oikonomides, in REB 44 (1986) 265 ("the first name must be read as Θ(ε)ωλό(γῳ), rather than as Θεοφίλῳ).
