Theoktistos 4 was hegoumenos of the monastery of the Auletes; in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council) and is attested at the fourth session, on 1 October 787, when he subscribed the statements read out from the Fathers in support of the veneration of icons: Mansi XIII 152 (Θεόκτιστος ἡγούμενος τοῦ Αὐλητοῦ; the Latin version, at XIII 151, calls him "hegumenus Auleti"). He probably attended other sessions of the Council also; see Gregorios 45. Mentioned in a letter written by Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite) in 809; he and Sabas 4 had at first opposed the restitution to their sees of all iconoclast bishops, including those who repented; his successor as hegoumenos, Antonios 36, had made untrue statements about him and Sabas 4 (περὶ Σαβᾶ τε καὶ Θεοκτίστου, τῶν εὐλαβεστάτων μοναχῶν): Theod. Stud. Ep. 38 (Fatouros) = I 38 (PG 99).
