Theodotos 48 was a spatharokandidatos and the addressee of three letters from the patriarch Photius (Photios 1), containing advice and instruction; he was a member of the Lalakones (perhaps the name of his family; otherwise, of some association to which he belonged); the date of the letters is uncertain, and so between c. 859 and c. 886: Photius, Ep. 124 (addressed Θεοδότῳ σπαθαροκανδιδάτῳ), Epp. 147, 151 (both addressed Θεοδότῳ σπαθαροκανδιδάτῳ κατὰ τοὺς Λαλακῶνας). The letters are in Laourdas-Westerink I 161ff., II 3ff., 6ff.
