Theodotos 17 was the uncle of pope Hadrian I (Hadrianos 1); Theodotos 17 was consul and dux and later became primicerius of the Church at Rome; after the death of Hadrianos 1's father and then mother, Theodotos 17 brought up and educated Hadrianos 1: Lib. Pont. 97. 2 ("a proprio thio Theodoto dudum consule et duce, postmodum vero primicerio sanctae nostrae ecclesiae"). The family of pope Hadrian I was a leading one at Rome; cf. Hadrianos 1.
