Titles | Horreiarios (office) |
Seal Sources | Schlumberger, G. Sigillographie de l'empire byzantin (Paris, 1884) |
Theodoros 160 was the owner of a seal found on Cyprus and dateable to the seventh or eighth century: Schlumberger, Sig., p. 611, no. 1 (facsimile). Obv.: Θεο - δωρ - ου χο(..). Rev.: ϊ - του - Αχιλ - λεου. The meaning is uncertain. Schlumberger regarded Achilles as a family name and called the man Theodoros Achilles, but the date is early for a family name. Achilles may have been a nickname or perhaps the name of the father. The interpretation of χο... is uncertain and the symbols at the beginning of the reverse are mysterious; the latter resemble an iota with a cross or perhaps an eta with the horizontal bar prolonged. The meaning is not certain. Χο... could perhaps represent the title χορρεάριος, i.e. horreiarios.
