Theodo 1 was the dux of the Bavarians; he was the first Bavarian to go on pilgrimage to St Peter's at Rome; the date was probably c. 716 (see Duchesne, Lib. Pont., p. 411, n. 11) and he was accompanied by others of his people: Lib. Pont. 91. 4 ("Theodo dux gentis Baioariorum"), cf. Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 44 ("his diebus Teudo Baioariorum dux gentis orationis gratiam Romam ad beatorum apostolorum vestigia venit").
