Stephanos 55 was an old man living as a solitary by a river just north of Kaisareia in Bithynia; he taught Niketas 43 the rules of the eremitic life and, finding him suitable for the cenobitic life, Stephanos 55 recommended Niketas 43 to enter a monastery: Vita Nicetae Medicii 7-8.
