Sophronas 1 was a priest; he was a native of the district of Takomis (site unknown, but presumably on Mt Olympus near Atroa); entrusted with the care of a horse belonging to a friend (Anonymus 129, a scholarios) during his absence, he kept it at the monastery of St Zacharias founded by St Peter of Atroa (Petros 34); one day the horse wandered away and he panicked when he could not find it; he visited the saint's tomb to pray and on his return met the animal returning: Vita Petr. Atr. Retractata 110 (pp. 163-165) (πρεσβύτερος δέ τις ἐκ χωρίου Τακώμεως προσαγορευόμενος Σωφρονᾶς).
