Sisinnios 51 is described as intelligent, well-educated, of good character and devout; he was strategos of the Karaboi (and in Hellas, see below) when he was ordered by the emperor to proceed to Thessalonike to reinforce Mauros 2 and enable more of the Sermesianoi (Greeks under the rule of the Bulgar, Kouber 1) to escape to Thessalonike Dem. II 5, 295. Sisinnios 51, styled εὐκλεέστατος στρατηγὸς, was in Hellas and sailed from there (ἀπὸ τῶν τῆς Ἑλλάδος μερῶν) to the isle of Skiathos (then a deserted island), arriving on Palm Sunday, which they celebrated; as the winds were contrary on the following day, he and his men prepared to celebrate the Easter festival on Skiathos, but following a visit from St Demetrios he ordered them to set sail, during the Monday night; they arrived in Thessalonike on the Wednesday morning, in time, though they were unaware of it, to avert an attempt by Mauros 2 to capture the city for himself: Mir. Dem. II 5, 296-301. Mauros 2 fell very ill of a fever and was allegedly saved only by words of encouragement from Sisinnios 51: Mir. Dem. II 5, 301. In order to facilitate the flight of the Sermesianoi to Thessalonike, Sisinnios 51 ordered Mauros 2 and his men to construct defence works outside the city to the West: Mir. Dem. II 5, 302. Sisinnios 51 is not mentioned again but he perhaps sailed to Constantinople when subsequently the Sermesianoi with Mauros 2 and his men were shipped from Thessalonike to Constantinople by means of the karaboi and other ships sent specially: Mir. Dem. II 5, 303.
