Simon 1 was a priest from the monastery of Qinnasrin; author of an account of the "heresy of the Maximians" (i.e. the anti-monothelete stance championed by Maximus 10 the Confessor; he allegedly took his information "from the writings of the Maronites" and his work was cited in the Chronicon Anonymi ad annum 1234: Chron. 1234, ยง130 (pp. 264-267). He clearly opposed Maximos 10 and the "Chalcedonians" and was presumably a monophysite and a monothelete. He perhaps lived shortly after the time of Maximos 10. For the Maronites, cf. ODB, p. 1304, s. v. Maronites.
