Samuel 3 was a basilikos spatharios; owner of a seal dateable to the second half of the ninth century: Zacos II 284. Obv.: patriarchal cross on base and two steps with the legend +Κ(ύρι)ε β[οή]θη τω [σω δουλ]ω. Rev.: +Σαμο - υηλ βαση - ληκο σπα -θαρηω. The text reads: Σαμουὴλ βασιλικῷ σπαθαρίῳ.
