In 866 Prokopios 3 was protovestiarios of the Kaisar Bardas (Bardas 5) (Προκοπίῳ πρωτοβεστιαρίῳ τοῦ Καίσαρος) and accompanied him on the expedition against Crete; at Kepoi in the Thrakesion theme he was informed by Ioannes 90 about the plot of Basilios 7 to kill Bardas 5 on the next day and he told Bardas 5 about it; he was sent back to Ioannes 90 by Bardas 5 with the message to stop talking nonsense: Leo Gramm. 244, Georg. Mon. Cont. 830, Ps.-Symeon 678. The date of the murder was 21 April 866 (indiction 14): Theoph. Cont. V 17 (p. 238).
