Photeinos 1 was a vir magnificentissimus, asekretis and basilikos sekretarios; at the eighth session of the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) on 7 March 681, he brought the three volumes (κωδίκια) of testimonia from the Fathers, collected by Makarios 1 and his supporters and carefully sealed until required, for the Council to inspect and compare with authentic texts from the patriarchal library: Riedinger II 2. 214, lines 23-24 (= Mansi XI 348) (διὰ Φωτεινοῦ τοῦ μεγαλοπρεπεστάτου ἀσηκρῆτις καὶ σεκρεταρίου βασιλικοῦ).
