Philokalos 1 was a basilikos kandidatos and kommerkiarios of Abydos; owner of a seal dateable to the ninth or tenth century: Schlumberger, Sig., p. 197, no. 1 (facsimile). Obv.: patriarchal cross on three steps, with the invocative formula Κύριε βοήθει. Rev.: +[Φιλ] - οκαλος - [β(ασιλικὸσ)] κανδιδ(ᾶτος) (καὶ) - [κο]υμερκι - [α]ρ(ιος) Αβυδ(ου).
