Philippos 17 was a deacon; addressee of a letter from Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite), of uncertain date, in which Theodoros 15 replied to a query from Philippos 17 concerning a young woman who had taken an oath to become a nun if her fiancé recovered from a grave illness but failed to fulfil her vow when he did recover; Philippos 17 is addressed as ὦ ἱερὲ ἄνερ (p. 154, line 2): Theod. Stud., Ep. 52, pp. 154-155 (the letter is addressed to Φιλίππῳ διακόνῳ).
