Peximinites 1 was a member of the lay order; he is mentioned by Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite) in a letter written in 816 as the only member of the order to oppose the iconoclast persecution openly (οὐδεὶς ἐκ τοῦ λαϊκοῦ τάγματος στήκων, πλὴν τοῦ Πηξιμηνίτου: Theod. Stud., Ep. 112, p. 231, lines 31-32); for this he had to endure beatings and banishment: Theod. Stud., Ep. 112, pp. 230-231 (a. 816). Peximenites is evidently not a personal name, but the meaning of the designation is not clear.
