Petros 97 was magister militum; at the bidding of pope Leo IV (Leo 121) who gave him money for the purpose, he constructed a safe refuge twelve miles from Centumcellae (Civitavecchia), furnishing the site with churches and gates; the place, styled both "urbs" and "civitas", was given the name Leopolis; the work was completed and the place surrounded with walls on 15 October 854: Lib. Pont. 105. 101-2.
