Petros 78 was patriarch of Aquileia (in the early eighth century); on his death he was succeeded by Serenus (Serenos 2): Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 33 ("mortuo denique his diebus patriarcha Petro, regimen Aquileiensis ecclesiae suscepit Serenus"). The event is placed in the narrative at the same time as the overthrow of the emperor Justinian II (Ioustinianos 1) by Philippicus (Philippikos 1), in 712. In Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. VI 51 it is recorded that the patriarchs of Aquileia in this period lived at Cormones ("Cormones castrum") because of attacks by the Romans.
