Petros 68 was defensor (of the Church); he took letters from pope Gregory III (Gregorios 7) to Constantinople to the patriarch Anastasius (Anastasios 2) and to the emperors Leo III (Leo 3) and his son Constantine (Konstantinos 7) opposing their iconoclast views: Lib. Pont. 92. 4 ("per Petrum defensorem"). The date, to judge by the chronology of pope Gregorios 7's previous correspondence with the emperor, was probably about 734.
