Petros 48 was the eldest son of Athanasios 4; while his father and brothers governed Egypt for the caliph Abdulmalik 1 Petros 48 was sent back to Edessa to administer the family properties and estates, which were considerable: Chron. 1234, ยง149 (p. 294). Athanasios 4 was probably in Egypt from 685 to 705.
