Textual SourcesNikaia, Second Council of (Seventh Ecumenical Council, a. 787) (Mansi XII-XIII) (conciliar)

Petros 39 was bishop of Seleukeia in Pisidia; in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council) and is attested at the first, fourth and seventh sessions, on 24 September, 1 October and 13 October 787: Mansi XII 999, XIII 149, 372. In the lists of those present at the first and seventh sessions he is styled Πέτρου ἐπισκόπου Σελευκείας τῆς Πισιδίας: Mansi XII 999, XIII 372 (the text reads (corrected in the margin): Σελευκείας τῆς Ἰδίας). Elsewhere he is styled Πέτρος ἐπίσκοπος Σελευκείας: Mansi XIII 149. At the fourth session he subscribed the statements read out from the Fathers in support of the veneration of icons: Mansi XIII 149. His name is missing from the lists of those at the second session who supported the traditional veneration of icons as described in statements from pope Hadrian I (Hadrianos 1) and of those at the seventh session who subscribed the statement of the faith adopted by the Council. He was present at the seventh session and the omission of his name is probably due to a textual defect; the names of several Pisidian bishops have apparently fallen out of the text; see Konstantinos 58.
