Textual SourcesNikaia, Second Council of (Seventh Ecumenical Council, a. 787) (Mansi XII-XIII) (conciliar)

Petros 38 was bishop of Tityassos in Pisidia; in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council) and is attested at the first, fourth and seventh sessions, on 24 September, 1 October and 13 October 787: Mansi XII 998-999, XIII 149, 372. In the lists of those present at the first and seventh sessions he is styled Πέτρου ἐπισκόπου Τυασοῦ: Mansi XII 998-999, XIII 372 (ἐπισκόπου τοῦ Τιασοῦ). Elsewhere he is styled Πέτρος ἐπίσκοπος Τοτιάσσου: Mansi XIII 149. At the fourth session he subscribed the statements read out from the Fathers in support of the veneration of icons: Mansi XIII 149. His name is missing from the list of those at the second session who supported the traditional veneration of icons as described in statements from pope Hadrian I (Hadrianos 1), and also from the list of those at the seventh session who subscribed the statement of the faith adopted by the Council, although he was present at the seventh session; his name has perhaps been lost from the surviving text together with those of other bishops from Pisidia; see Konstantinos 58.
