Petros 6 was described as "of Maiouma" (Πέτρος, ὁ κατὰ τὸν Μαϊουμᾶν); he was an admirer of Petros bishop of Damascos (Petros 5); he held an office under the Arabs concerned with taxation, which in Theophanes is called chartoularios (χαρτουλαρίῳ τελοῦντι τῶν δημοσίων φόρων); after speaking out against Islam and the Prophet he suffered martyrdom; an encomium was written about him by John of Damascus (Ioannes 11): Theoph. AM 6234. The encomium is not extant; see Beck, Kirche, p. 483, n. 5.
