Papianos 1 was bishop of Vibo (Bibona, in Bruttium); he attended all five sessions of the Lateran Council, from 5 October to 31 October 649, and in the list of bishops present is named in tenth place: Conc. Lat., p. 2, line 18 (Παπιανοῦ ἐπισκόπου Βιβῶνος), p. 3, line 18 ("Papinio Vibonense episcopo") (the first session), cf. pp. 31, 111, 177 and 247 (the Latin version only is repeated for the other sessions). He subscribed the definition of the faith agreed by the Council at its fifth session: Conc. Lat., p. 392, line 7 (Παπινιανὸς ἐπίσκοπος Βιβῶνος), p. 393, line 7 ("Papinius episcopus sanctae Vibonensis ecclesiae").
