According to the List of Old Bulgar Rulers, Oumar 1's name was Umor and his family was called Ukil; the length of his reign was forty days: see Runciman, First Bulgarian Empire, pp. 273 (Umor 40 days, his race Ukil, and his [years] dilom tutom), 277 (for the chronology). The date was 767; see Grumel, Chronologie, p. 388. Appointed ruler of the Bulgars by Sabinos 1 (τὸν ἀρχηγὸν αὐτῶν κατασταθέντα ὑπὸ Σαβίνου Οὔμαρον ὄνομα), he was dismissed by the Bulgars and replaced by Toktos 1; his dismissal provoked an attack on the Bulgars (dated in indiction 3, 764/765, by Nicephorus) by the emperor Constantine V (Konstantinos 7): Nic. Brev. de Boor 70, Mango 79. See Runciman, op. cit., p. 40.
