Nikostratos 1 was a young man acquainted with Peter of Atroa (Petros 34); he had throat trouble and the doctors could do nothing for him, but when he appealed to Petros 34 he was immediately cured; shortly afterwards he reported to Petros 34 a theft by one of his servants from his home and asked for Petros 34 to pray for the man's arrest; Petros 34 did and within a few days the man and the stolen goods were returned; Nikostratos 1 was a notarios (ὁ αὐτὸς νοτάριος Νικόστρατος); possibly the text calling him a young man (τινὶ δὲ νεωτέρῳ γνωρίμῳ ὑπάρχοντι τῷ πατρί) is in error and should be read: τινὶ δὲ νοταρίῳ (see Laurent, La Vie merveilleuse, p. 209, note): Vita Petr. Atr. 77 (pp. 209-211). At the time Petros 34 was apparently at St Porphyrios and the date was shortly before his death (835/836).
