Nikolaos 81 was basilikos spatharios and chartoularios of the Optimatoi; owner of a seal dateable to the ninth or tenth century: DOSeals III 71.3. Obv.: cross on four steps, with a circular inscription reading: +Κε βοηθ.... σω δουλω. Rev.: .Νικο - ..ου βα' σπα - ..αρ' τον Οπ - .ηματον. The name and title read: Νικο[λά]ου βασιλικοῦ σπαθαρίου [καὶ χ]αρτουλαρίου τον Ὀπ[τ]ημάτον.
