Nikolaos 74 was a mankips (baker); addressee of two letters from Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15), both written between 815 and 818: Theod. Stud., Epp. 242, p. 375; 299, p. 438 (both addressed Νικολάῳ μάγκιπι). An old acquaintance of Theodoros 15 (φυλάττοντος ἀρχαίαν ἀγάπην: p. 375, line 4) and a supporter of icon veneration, he received and entertained a letter- bearer of Theodoros 15 and also sent Theodoros 15 gifts; he is addressed as ἠγαπημένε ἄνερ (p. 375, lines 2-3): Theod. Stud., Ep. 242, p. 375. A steadfast supporter of the veneration of icons, he welcomed into his home Stoudite monks travelling to visit Theodoros 15; addressed as φίλε καλέ (p. 438, line 2) and as ἀδελφέ (p. 438, line 13): Theod. Stud., Ep. 299, p. 438.
