Nikolaos 12 was hypatos, basilikos spatharios and archon of Crete; owner of a seal dateable to the eighth or ninth century: Tsougarakis, SBS 2, pp. 146-7, no. 20 ( = Mordtmann, Hell. Phil. Syll. 17 (1886), app., p. 152, no. 27 and Laurent, Cretica Chronica 15-16/II (1961/62), pp. 383-4, 393)(possibly two specimens of the same seal). Obv.: monogram of Τηεοτόκε βοήθει. Rev.: Νικολάῳ ὑπάτῳ βασιλικῷ σπαθαρίῳ καὶ ἄρχοντι Κρήτης.
