Niketas 155 was a monk; addressee of a letter from Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite), written between 821 and 826; he had sent to Theodoros 15 a copy of a work by Hypatios (the sixth century metropolitan bishop of Ephesos; cf. ODB II, p. 963) containing ideas about the veneration of icons with which he felt some sympathy, that pictures were for the instruction of the uneducated while men of education used written sources; in his reply Theodoros 15 advised Niketas 155 to reject the opinions of Hypatios because they were not consistent with the orthodox position; he is styled τῆς ὁσιότητος ὑμῶν (p. 737, line 2): Theod. Stud., Ep. 499, pp. 737-738 (addressed Νικήτᾳ μονάζοντι).
