Niketas 154 was also called Lygdenos: Petrus, Vita Ioannicii 30 (τοῦ κύρου Νικῆτα τοῦ Λυγδηνοῦ). It is unclear if this is a nickname (?the White), the family name, or indicates his place of origin. Niketas 154 was a pious layman living in Bithynia close to Mt Olympus; he received a visit from the monk Eustratios 19 shortly after the death of the emperor Leo V (Leo 15) had been foretold by Ioannikios 2; after three days news arrived of the murder of Leo 15, and Eustratios 19 and Niketas 154 then returned to Ioannikios 2 to give him the news of the murder of Leo 15 and the accession of Michael II (Michael 10) and to seek his blessing: Sabas, Vita Ioannicii 25 (Νικήταν τινὰ λαϊκὸν θεοσεβῆ), Petrus, Vita Ioannicii 30-31. Leo 15 was assassinated on Christmas Day 820.
