Niketas 69 was basilikos protospatharios and droungarios of the ploïmon; owner of a seal dateable to the ninth century (see below): Zacos and Veglery 2258 = Laurent, Corpus II 951. The text reads: Νικήτᾳ βασιλικῷ πρωτοσπαθαρίῳ καὶ δρουγγαρίῳ τοῦ βασιλικοῦ πλο(ΐ)μου. The seal is dated by Zacos and Veglery to the second half of the ninth century, identifying the owner, tentatively, with Niketas Ooryphas (Niketas 66) before the latter became patrikios; Laurent dated it to the early ninth century, firmly identifying the owner with the droungarios Niketas (cf. Niketas 166) who led the expedition against Venice in 807. Cf. also Niketas 68; possibly the same person, at an earlier stage of his career.
