Niketas 65, also called David, was a native of Paphlagonia and was the author of the Life of the patriarch Ignatios (Ignatios 1): Nicetas, Vita Ignatii, in the title superscription (PG 105, 487-488) (συνεγράφη δὲ παρὰ Νικήτα δούλου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, τοῦ καὶ Δαυῒδ, τοῦ Παφλαγόνος). The work (BHG 817) is in PG 105, 487-573. He lived in the generation following Ignatios 1 and collected his material from both written and oral sources: Nicetas, Vita Ignatii 489A-B (ἐκ τῶν ἐγγράφως τε καὶ ἀγράφως πεπληροφορημένων ἐν ἡμῖν πραγμάτων). He met people with personal knowledge of events that occurred in 867 and 869: Vita Ignatii 541A-B (for 867) (εἰς μνήμην τούτων ἰών), 545D (for 869) (ὡς τῶν εἰδότων ἀκήκοα).
