Niketas 59 was basilikos spatharokandidatos and tourmarches of the Kathodos; owner of a seal dateable (possibly) to the ninth century: Schlumberger, Sig., p. 194, no. 7 (ninth century) = Mordtmann, "Plombs" II, p. 56f., no. 44 (eleventh) = Bon, Le Péloponnèse byzantin, p. 206, no. 73. Obv.: bust of St Nikolaos with a legend no longer readable. Rev.: +Νικήτᾳ β(ασιλικῷ) σπαθ(αρο)κανδιδ(άτῳ) (καὶ) τρουμάρχ(ηι) (sic) τ(ης) Κατοδου. Mordtmann and Schlumberger, following Reiske, explain Kathodos as denoting the isles of the Aegean Sea. Cf. Winkelmann, Rangstruktur, p. 109 (who queries the date and the reading).
