Niketas 53 was a monk and synkellos; owner of two seals both dateable to the ninth or tenth century: Laurent, Corpus V 1, nos. 224 (= Schlumberger, Florilegium, p. 565, no. 12) (obv.: invocative monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει with the legend Νικήτᾳ; rev.: +μον - αχω και - συ(γ)κελ - λω) and 225 (= Konstantopoulos, JIAN 6, 269) (obv.: Greek cross with the legend Κύριε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ; rev.: +Νικ[η] - τ(ᾳ) μονα - χο συν - κελ(λ)ο). The shape of the beta, like a capital Roman R, excludes a date before early to the mid ninth century.
