Niketas 42 was apo eparchon and skribon; owner of a seal, possibly dateable to the seventh or eighth centuries (see below): Tsougarakis, SBS 2, p. 152, no. 68 = Xanthoudides, "Christianikai archeiotetes", p. 120, no. 8. Obv.: bust of Virgin with Christ. Rev.: Θεοτόκε βοήθει Νικήτα ἀπὸ ἐπάρχων καὶ σκρίβωνι. The seal perhaps belongs to the seventh or eighth century, when skribones acquired honorific titles, and before their status fell after the reforms attributed to Constantine V (Konstantinos 7) in the eighth century; cf. Haldon, Byzantine Praetorians, p. 163.
