A Stoudite monk, Nikanor 1 carried letters between Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite) and the hermit Theoktistos 19 and is referred to in a letter from Theodoros 15 to St Ioannikios (Ioannikios 2) in c. 823 (Νικάνωρ ὁ ἡμέτερος ἀδελφός) ; Nikanor 1 had brought Theodoros 15 news of the repentance and return to orthodoxy of Theoktistos 19: Theod. Stud., Ep. 461.
