Mu`awiya 6 (Mu`awiya ibn Yazid) was the son of the caliph Yazid (Yezid 1) and grandson of Mu`awiya 1; he succeeded his father as caliph but ruled for only four months; he ruled in Damascus but civil war broke out when Mukhtar (al-Mukhtar 1) was proclaimed ruler in the east and Abdullah bar Zubair (Abdullah 3) in Yathrib and Mu`awiya 6 chose to abdicate; he died three months and twenty days later; he was regarded as timid and accordingly was given the nickname Abu Layla ("Father of the Light"): Bar Hebr., p. 102.
