Michael 101 was bishop of Mitylene; owner of a seal dateable to the eighth or ninth century (DOSeals) or to the late eighth or early ninth century (Zacos and Veglery) or to the mid ninth (Laurent): DOSeals II 51.6 = Zacos and Veglery 1341 = Laurent, Corpus V 3, no. 1779. Obv.: Virgin standing, holding Christ, with cruciform monograms of Θεοτόκε and βοήθει. Rev. +Μιχ. - ηλ επις. - οπω Μιτ. - λινης. The name and title read: Μιχαὴλ ἐπισκόπῳ Μιτυλήνης. On the date, see Nesbitt and Oikonomides, DO Seals II, p. 143 (following Zacos and Veglery, not Laurent). Laurent identified the owner with Michael (PBE II), metropolitan bishop of Mitylene, addressee of a letter from Photios 1; cf. PG 102, 833CD, 860C-861B.
