Michael 50 was a monk and synkellos, author of a version of the martyrdom of the Forty-Two Martyrs of Amorion (p. 22 title; συγγραφὲν παρὰ Μιχαὴλ μοναχοῦ καὶ συγκέλλου); his version concentrates on the role of Kallistos 2, alludes to earlier versions (p. 23, lines 1-4), and adds details omitted by his predecessors: Mart. XLII Amor., BHG 1213. His identification with the more famous writer Michael Synkellos (Michael 51), who died in 846, is open to doubt on chronological grounds. See e.g. Beck, Kirche, pp. 503-505.
