Michael 48 was patrikios, basilikos protospatharios and strategos of the Thrakesioi; owner of a seal dateable to the eighth century: DOSeals III 2.46. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Κύριε βοήθει with .ω - σω - δου - λω in the corners. Rev.: +Μι - ηλ πατρ - ω β' α'σπα - στρατη - των Θρ - ης. The name and titles read: Μιχαὴλ πατρικίῳ βασιλικῷ πρωτοσπαθαρίῳ καὶ στρατηγῷ τῶν Θρᾳκησίων.

A similar seal is Schlumberger, Sig., 730, no. 1 (strategos of Thrace), emended by Konstantopoulos (see below), and cf. Laurent, "Bulletin" I, p. 637, no. 9. This seal belonged to Michael patrikios, basilikos protospatharios and strategos of Thrace (sic) and is dateable to the eighth or ninth century: Schlumberger, Sig., p. 730, no. 1 (facsimile). Obv.: invocative monogram of Κύριε βοήθει with the legend τῷ σῷ δούλῳ. Rev.: +Μιχ. - ηλ πατ. - ικ β ασπ - και στρ τη. - Θρακ. Konstantopoulos published the same seal, JIAN 5, 125; he read the word before Θρακ as των and therefore explained the last word as Θρακησίων, correctly; Laurent, "Bulletin" I, p. 637, confirmed this reading but was reluctant to accept the identification of the owner with Michael Lachanodrakon (Michael 5), as Konstantopoulos proposed. Cf. Winkelmann, Rangstruktur, p. 91.
