Michael 39 was metropolitan bishop of an unknown see; owner of a seal dateable to the ninth century: Schlumberger, Sig., p. 291, no. 1 (facsimile), cf. Laurent, Corpus V 1, p. 363. Obv.: bust of Virgin with Child and the legend Θ(εοτό)κε βοήθ(ει) [τῷ σῷ δούλῳ]. Rev.: [Μ]ιχαη - [λ μ]ητρο - [πολι]τ(ῃ) πολ(εως) - [....]ου. Schlumberger restored the last three words as: μ]ητρο[π(ολίτῃ) Πόν]τ(ου) Πολ[εμωνιακ]οῦ, but this was rightly questioned by Laurent.
